Pat lives in Seattle, hails from Spokane, and holds an MS in communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. He began his art practice after a 30-year career as an advertising creative. Much of his work leans on humor, poking at technology, fame, commercialism, and the increasing lack of communion between urban and rural environments. His blue collar upbringing informs a courtship with DIY and preoccupation with reusing items instead of buying brand spanking new every damn time. He embraces “material adversity.” Creating with specific but commonly found items—from concrete to cardboard, fake fur to heavy rope—to generate tension between elements in his compositions. His most recent work revolves around depicting objects, images, and figures as alternate versions of themselves through redesign, simple construction, and his routine use of primary color.
